Construction/Travel Advisories

Highway ConstructionMost all Maine Turnpike projects that require the use of lane closures are scheduled a week in advance. Maine Turnpike Authority highway maintenance foreman and highway engineering project inspectors work with Maine Turnpike communications personnel to compile a weekly schedule which can be reviewed on our weekly lane closure reports page. Read the information before heading out on the Turnpike to see if roadwork is scheduled on highway sections along your travel route.

When highway emergencies result in delays due to construction activities, heavy traffic, crashes or the weather, subscribers to the Maine Turnpike’s e-mail Travel Alert system receive an e-mail message describing the location and reason for the delay.

Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) messages are broadcast over 1610AM, along the entire length of the Turnpike. Travel delays and construction activity information is aired as conditions warrant. Flashing roadside beacons are activated when an emergency report is active to provide motorists already on the Turnpike access to important information. Tune in before entering the Turnpike to avoid unexpected delays. Road condition and construction information can also be heard by calling the Turnpike’s highway advisory, toll free phone line by dialing 1-800-675-PIKE.
